let there be light
lots of lights :D Davie had fun with some that the previous owners left us: Looks very nice out there in the dark Then in a strange and wonderful ‘great minds and all that’ moment, we received our gifts from the gorgeous Cat. Davie and me have not worn ours yet so they’ll appear in [...]
bones and rubble
Shut some of our home ed children in stocks yesterday. I must take this opportunity to say how shocking it is that so few schools provide this experience for children… stocks should be used more Went for a walk to see some council houses in the roughest part of town. It became so bad because [...]
geodes
On a bit of a soup kick just now: 110 mile an hour winds here today – lorries have blown over and roofs have blown off. Were still all intact but it’s loud and fierce. Weve been going for extremely long walks of late in the woods but giving that a miss today… tried to photograph [...]
lovelies
these arrived in the post this morning: Book are for review from Grub Street publishers and all look very good at first glance. Strawberries in chocolate are a thank you from the Dr. Hadwen Trust for mentioning them in the vegan family mailing list – they don’t have to pay me at all but I’m [...]
poor wee thing
It’s finished and will be a good lesson in impermanence later when broken up and tidied away… We used our alien kit today… kids did quite sensible ones. Charlotte’s sung an anti-war song in it’s own language and Dan’s said ‘resistance is futile’ :) They even thought about their habitat and planets as suggested in instructions. [...]

natural history centre
Quite a well kept secret this place – I knew about it because a friend’s son did a degree in the building. It’s a huge collection of all stuff zoological – some of it been there for hundreds of years. They now have an educational facility there so: home ed group trip here we come, or [...]
upsetting
All work, no play at Blair flagship school - don’t know what to say :( and Catherine Tate gave us some periodic table fun :) Kids loved this one with David Tennant too… yes okay, so did I Going to school not compulsory – from the beeb. Sounds like England is going to get some guidelines a bit [...]
triangles
We read up a bit more on Pythagoras theorem in this book and then moved onto triangles in general and played around with both pythagorus and triangles in this online maths dictionary for kids. Daniel went off on his own Pythagorean tangent investigating the habits of the Pythagoreans. He has also been fascinated to learn [...]
fractions and flying disc
Started with some fraction action played as snap – Charlotte won again :) Then we had a thorough investigation of this brain box explorer kit. It was fantastic – had it for ages but reserved it for ‘after we move’… can see it’s going to be a hit though, it was great fun. Putting a disc [...]

hot and sunny
art pad – quite a fun little site where you can create your drawing, then frame it and hang in a gallery Kids did some pictures with sun sensitive paper. Also discussed standard photography about each layer of chemicals on the film reacting to photons of different colours. wait 2 minutes… then… and drying: and [...]
