Bennachie
Had a sudden terrible realisation this morning. We had not climbed a mountain or any large hill this summer. Beautiful day so off we rushed to rectify this :) A bit like childbirth, climbing. You don’t remember how hard it is until you’re doing it again (actually no comparison of course – childbirth much harder!). We got to the [...]

Cairngorms
Had a quiet day in the castle (just love writing that!) yesterday. Actually did some more orthodox education stuff. I made up some dot to dots for Charlotte counting up in 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7s, went and did some shopping. Daniel bought ‘New Scientist’ Magazine and factoided us for the rest of the [...]
Aberdeen International Youth Festival
Had a nice day today – it was the start of The Aberdeen International Youth Festival so we went to see the opening parade. Great seeing all the different groups from around the world – Aberdeen felt quite muticultural for once! I attended the festival dance summer school when I was 14 – I remember [...]

The fort is the size of a football pitch and has been vetrified – there is much speculation on how this happened. There are forty such hillforts in Scotland all [...]
climb
A bit of an adventure today. We started off going to the library and getting lots of Roman books then headed off to climb to the Mither Tap of Bennachie. There was quite a good exhibition on wildlife and ecology in the centre which we made good use of. It’s been a lovely day but [...]
