raised beds
We have 3 new ones for next season, hopefully one more to come Planning to give over the whole allotment bit at the bottom of the garden to potatoes next year, with the chives, rhubarb and some other bits (maybe leeks? nasturtiums?) for biodiversity. It’s been really noticable this year that the more food we [...]
frogs and barre
It’s all very magical down there in the pond – just been out listening to them tonight by the light of the moon Below should be a short video of them – turn up your volume to hear their frenzied ribbuting! Apologies for the poor picture quality – they are more shy than they appear [...]
polytunnels and taps
Weve had a few spring-like days now, causing me to dig over some ground for the little polytunnel and clean and set up the coldframe to let the ground warm up for salad seeds. Browsing Suttons trying to decide what to plant this year – will have more room with extra raised beds… this really [...]

garden doings
Browsing Sutton’s seed clearance, some good bargains…(would it be totally daft to attempt goji berries here???) got quite a few of our seeds from there this year and they were very good, no disasters B&Q have got lots of trays of veg plants reduced to 50p just now – nabbed a load of cabbage and kale [...]

cake and wood
Does Davie take the advice of the cake on his week off? Well, first he painted the outside of the house – can highly recommend Ecos paints, never using nasty chemically things again after the experience of Daniel’s doors last winter which the joiners painted with something akin to toxic waste. Then, oh look the [...]
cold frame and pumpkins
We thought a cold frame was a good idea for Dan’s pumpkins but what a price they are – especially considering many of them are just glorified boxes with see-through lids… so it was off to the treasure trove sheds again. Calls of ‘I’ve found panes of glass’ and ‘ooh, windows’ resounded round the garden. [...]
sunny bmx
Lovely sunny, fresh day today – last day of school term up here before the ‘tattie’ holidays, so called due to teenagers often gaining holiday jobs picking potatoes. Drove past my old secondary school today and saw a pupil being arrested and taken away by police (incident had caused a traffic jam so we had [...]
