archeaology
Home ed group trip to the Birnie archaeological dig. Archaeologist gave us a very interesting talk about the site and finds and then it was off to the trenches where 1st year archaeo students were excavating an iron-age burnt down roundhouse: We got to sieve the earth removed by diggers, quite a few things were found [...]

Culloden
Home ed group trip to Culloden Moor today – site of the last battle fought on British soil. They have just opened their new state of the art visitor centre and it was great. Davie decided to stay at home and complete some more DIY jobs around the house after he heard we intended going shopping and [...]
pilgrims
Following on from our earlier reformation roleplay we visited Pluscarden Abbey yesterday. We all really enjoyed that – watched a short service in the Abbey which was fascinating and beautiful. It felt a unique experience to us – loved it when monks started arriving from all directions for the service. No photos of that of course but there [...]

whale in harbour
I hardly listen to local news so would have been unaware of the minke whale in Fraserburgh harbour if it had not been for a phonecall from a friend this morning. Poor thing had followed a fishing boat in and is now stuck – it’s mother is waiting outside. Hopefully rescue efforts will re-start soon. [...]
