Have finally got the blog how I want it – a terrible tale of databases, installations of wordpress and corrupted (by me) css files ensued but I’ve now uploaded the archives (see drop down on sidebar) and cleaned up dead links too
Reading a book lent by my mum. She found it while scouring her shelves during the snow time (unable to get to a library) and thought it might actually be mine… can’t imagine why

Ivan Illich’s Deschooling Society is full of wonderful radical thoughts on education, reminds me a lot of Holt and Gatto. The previous owner has hardly left a page untouched, with highlighting and notes everywhere, which somehow makes reading it more interesting, an extra dimension, what someone else finds of import. I think he went a bit too far in sometimes underlining whole pages of text, but there we are

Enjoying Scotch Broth, not the most photogenic of soups but it tastes good:

The Artists Way: A Course in Discovering and Recovering Your Creative Self - an intensely powerful and synchronistic way of clearing blocks, old psychological patterns and dysfunctions of the past. Get doing your morning pages, they're amazing!
fabulous guide to foraging in Britain.
amazing Russian books these: spirituality; growing; living naturally; raising children with love and respect; quite magical. Release any preconceived ideas of how life should be (or books) and create your space of love!
A very well researched novel which, alongside Picoult's usual 'heading to a trial' plot, explores many facets of and perspectives on Asperger's Syndrome. The potential and common effects of AS on siblings is especially well documented here. As gripping and informative a book as
a great storehouse of food growing knowledge from Dirty Nails :)
"Girls just wanna have... wanna have fun...", and we still are :)

Love the new look! You’re very clever being able to make a proper website-y blog!
Good Old Ivan Illich! I have WADS of home education books and spent far more on them than I ccould afford…
Broth looks good!
not really clever – was easier than I thought! do love these books… thinking outside box type stuff, good ideas for the future of the education system too.
Sounds like an inspiring read!
That Scotch Broth does look beautiful, and I think that picture brings out the true delight of the soup. Beautiful bowl by the way.
What ingredients do you use for your Scotch Broth?
it’s usually made with a mix that contains red lentils, barley, marrowfat peas, green/yellow split peas – this mix also had aduki beans, obviously not traditional but very nice
added carrot, potato, leek and also unusually thyme from garden
Wonderful reorganization! I often come to your site for HE reference materials – so nice to have the ‘old home ed resource links’ easily accessible. Thank you for keeping it up.
Glad you find it useful
I should really do a new page here and add to it, may get round to it yet. I did weed out dead links from the old one recently.
