spend less

the spend less handbookBeen sent this fab book for review on Frugal Living and had to give it a mention here too as it has a home education related tip Daniel spotted it on leafing through. “tip 248: Over 100,000 families already school their children at home. You have a legal right to opt to teach your children yourself, taking as much or as little as you want from the National Curriculum. It is a particularly beneficial choice for bright children who are not responding well to the school experience or who do not seem to be getting on there. It is also worth noting that home-schooled children do actually tend to outperform their peers at school – a reason, perhaps, why 30% of those parents choosing this option are teachers themselves.”

Above and beyond that tip in the kids section (there are many school and university related tips too) it has the more general advice that more than what school our kids go to or what toys etc. they have, what matters most is who their parents are. You can’t buy time and love but they’re the most important. In fact that’s really the overall tone of the book – spend less and be happier focussing on what life should be about Timely.
