It’s been a busy month of visiting friends both here and there iyswim. Had a fab residential home ed group trip where the kids ran amock in the woods and the adults got to chat and drink wine and eat chocolate cake. It was HOT, actually HOT, hoping this bodes well for the rest of summer. Our children converted a pack of guides to the concept of non-school-ness, I’m sure their parents will be delighted I didn’t know there were different sorts of guides now - old school and well, not old school. These ones in a lodge next to us were proud to be ‘not of the old type’ and were enjoying a seventies night (I mistook them for a group of deeply troubled teens when I saw them arriving in their outfits along with youth-workery people!). There was another set staying in traditional green tents but we didn’t see them, don’t know if maybe they ‘weren’t allowed out’. Daniel attemped to eat all the pasta on the premises and kept returning to the lodge soaked and dripping – always signs of a good trip.

What else have we been doing? Art in the woods, reading in the garden, reading everywhere really, beaches, Dan’s doing a course on game development but it may be autumn before any real ‘knuckling down’ is acheived there. Charlotte’s really keen on a new drama workshop that’s going on in the HE group – Dan not quite so enamoured by it but it’s really good for him All the group participation, free expression, learning about body language of oneself and others etc. Good stuff, talented teacher too.
Couple of pics, smaller, not so clear but I’m calming down a little with that. Some scary things been happening in the lives of friends but it’s all getting better.

What’s a blog entry (of mine anyway) without a book or/and a film?
Watched ‘About A Boy’ last night – Daniel’s been enjoying some of Hornby’s other books too. Had forgotton how the film starts with a boy expressing the wish that his mother could home educate him but accepting that she really couldn’t. Hornby was a teacher and gives a good description of secondary school, the social set up and parents not realising what it’s really like. I’m getting good at spotting the writing of those who’ve actually worked in schools these days
Loveliest book around in this house just now has to be Kate Magic Wood’s Raw Magic – apart from all the great superfoods recipes there’s lots of spiritual succour too and gorgeous photos throughout.

Well, it really is a small update – truth being I can’t actually remember what weve been doing apart from what’s already mentioned. Garden’s blossoming all over. Hope you’re all doing well and being happy
