loud chat and mountains

Got the bulk of the kitchen decorating done yesterday… just some little touches to add, but we’ll do that together in the week sometime. Had a great day out today with friends. Davie decided to stay at home and complete some more DIY jobs around the house after he heard we intended going shopping and that Philip was working… men are very strange sometimes :) Got some good festive shopping done, kids had to go off on their own to do some of it now and again.

On the way over to Nicola’s:

Bennachie with snow on mither tap

Helped with some really hard homework ;) and then set off for Dufftown. Stopped for lunch… Indulged in our usual too loud conversation in restaurant – we have been doing this for years, it often all goes quiet as we discuss politics, current affairs, Donald Trump, unfortunate personal incidents, you name it… kids find it all rather funny. I think we provide a public service really – free entertainment. Once a man approached us to compliment Daniel on his knowledge of historical Scottish politics :D

big clock with small cuckoo at side - had to retype that, it came out very badly indeed!!

Had a look round Dufftown, saw many distilleries and kept seeing the summit of Benn Rinnes peeking at us.

 Benn Rinnes

Weve been meaning to climb it for a couple of years now so – snow, low temperatures, late in the day… obviously it was a good idea:

peak in distance

We didn’t make it to the top today – were not really so daft as to risk being up there in the dark and snow. But we’ll be back. There’s something so special about standing on a mountain – makes me a feel a love for this land and the planet, a connection. Puts our little human lives in perspective somehow. Humbling. Not to mention the fantastic exercise and amazingly clean air. Must go up them more often :D

one of the many distilleries we passed - definitely a climb/whisky making tour coming next year!
