pilgrims

Following on from our earlier reformation roleplay we visited Pluscarden Abbey yesterday. We all really enjoyed that – watched a short service in the Abbey which was fascinating and beautiful. It felt a unique experience to us – loved it when monks started arriving from all directions for the service. No photos of that of course but there are plenty others ;) Collected lots of leaflets detailing Catholic answers to various issues which we intend looking at today and discussing.

After a picnic we hot-footed it to Elgin Cathedral where the children took part in a quiz searching for characters and answering history questions. We looked high (literally, legs hurt today after all the stairs!) and low for the 3 royal ones only to be told afterwards they had been stolen by Italian tourists…

Then our next stop on this pilgrimage day was Spynie Palace, the old home of the Bishops of Moray.

Children really seem to be appreciating learning about differing religious and spiritual beliefs so we’ll be continuing to build on this, looking for other paths and places to show them.

Conversations left me thinking about life or rather our lives and my general outlook. It really is much more rosy since since we started home ed. With all we were going through before I had a much more jaded, pessimistic view – sometimes couldn’t see the beauty or joy in life at all. Haven’t remembered that feeling for a while. I so appreciate our blessings now – and boy have they grown :D
