All very synchronistic. Saw a car come up the track and a woman get out and stand hugging a child in our gateway. Bit odd, so out I go to see if they need help or something. Turns out the lady grew up in this house and hadn’t seen it for 23 years. It just all felt so right and natural to ask her in and show her round everything. Me, who has become rather precious about letting people in my home – complete strangers invited in, no hesitation :) Intuition being obeyed though, so all was very well.

She was able to tell me all the things I’ve wanted to know – which are the original features, what’s been changed, the truth behind various rumours and about the man who built it. We visited the tree where his ashes were scattered. It is a special favourite of ours and we often sit by/on it near the end of a bike run. It was obviously quite emotional for her but healing – she said she felt more at peace than she has for a long time at the end. It was good for her to see the house being loved and happily lived in.

Kids all got on really well too and spent much time trampolining, exploring and discussing books :) We had a great deal in common too. She (sorry for the repeated use of ’she’ but using actual names seems unwise as the house and family are quite well known about here) is a supply teacher just now and quite horrified by the state of the education system – her face lit up when I said we home ed as she really wants to do this too. She is also considering Waldorf and we talked quite deeply about that over tea and choccie biccies. We agreed that it was a bit strange how perfectly normal it felt for us all to be together here in the house, like we’d known each other a long time. So emails have been exchanged and we’ll keep in touch
