books sun

Few days no blog so now have to strain to remember what weve been doing. Cat went home :( Really weve just been splashing up and down the pool (amazing the difference going in every day is making to our strength and confidence), laying in the sun and reading, reading, reading.

Dan is still enthralled with this fantastic biology book Cat gave him – he feels it’s making him learned :) Charlotte is fluctuating between Jean Auel and Asterix. I’m chuckling away at Skinny Bitch which we found in our local bookshop – amazing (I cruelly prised it from Catriona’s hands and took it for myself!). There was one part which I meant to skip about animal cruelty, but accidentally found myself reading anyway, which kept me up at night, but the diet stuff is very amusing with all the profanity though some fascinating facts in there too. I passed it over to Dan to read about protein to give a different slant to what he was reading in his book. He was most amused to see a chapter called Pooping – yes we are all naughty little children here. I’m also re-reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince in preparation for book 7 soon. It’s the only one that I’ve read only once… I read all the others again when the kids were at the Waldorf (only worked in the mornings usually and waited around the rest of the time). Have forgotton loads so am really enjoying reading it – love that bit where Dumbledore is so ‘polite but rude’ to the Dursleys :) School holidays start at the end of this week so we will not have our usual quiet morning cinema to see the new film this time… well maybe were getting a bit spoiled with that anyway ;)

Talking of films we watched The History Boys the other night – so satisfying to watch a really good film. Had to keep pausing it to explain things like compound adjectives (enjoyably rude)… also raised a few deeper questions about morals and sexuality…

Finally went for our ‘new patient checks’ to register with a new doctor. Been putting that off for a while as I hate orthodox medical stuff – last time any of us were at the docs was when Dan was bullied at school and needed treatment for stress… ugh… Anyway it was all very jolly in there, with staff members joking and laughing together. We were pronounced a very healthy family with perfect blood pressure and healthy weights :) and of course it was a little educational too for the kids to see what goes on at a basic medical.

Went and chose all the little fiddly bits for the new kitchen – handles, taps, tiles, worktops etc. Also interesting for the kids to see the computer designing system and all the different kitchen stuff.

So now, back off out to the sun… warm summeriness is back at last… going to gather a lunch from the garden today. The potatoes are so lovely, completely different from shop bought ones and all the salad stuff is growing wildly in the warmth (the heavy rain has no doubt helped too)… Had a great smoothie yesterday with blackcurrants and rasps from out there… loving it :D
