cake and cannibalism

First the cake – totally fantastic, very rich and flavourful – the carrot macadamia ginger coconut (may have those in wrong order) cake from Vegan with a Vengeance again. It’s just too handy having the town nearby. Charlotte and I nipped over there this afternoon to get the missing ingredients.

Alas the poor bowl. I now know not to carry heavy ceramics across the kitchen with wet hands :(

…and the frogs. There are now about 100 of them in the ponds – it’s a frenzy out there. Spent quite a while outside watching them today. Davie and Daniel were exploring this evening and found a frog that had a leg missing, looked like it had been chewed off. Yes, Dan’s research has found that they eat each other. I knew tadpoles did but not full grown frogs. It’s their population control thing – I can see if all those spawn (which are no longer in clumps but landmasses and continents!) grew up we would be overrun. It certainly answers the question as to what they are eating too…

Other things today: Charlotte becoming very independent in the kitchen, made her own porridge this morning with no help. Weve had more piano, yoga and Band of Brothers. Now I’m off to bed to read French Women for All Seasons. Was about this time last year that I read the last one – feels like a different life looking back now. Things feel more ‘in place’ and how they’re meant to be now :)
