bits and pieces

First a little bit of excitement for  our Frugal Living site when the Times gave it a mention in their eco-worrier calendar - took me a while to find out where all these extra visitors were coming from as they were mainly from the print version!

Wonderful page of poems here - seen at aspie home education

Cat has just told me about a free podcast ‘French for Beginners’ on iTunes. Go to podcasts then education and you should see it :) Am downloading it now – initial small listen sounds like it will be good fun.

Have just finished reading ‘Mr. Golightly’s Holiday‘ and have a couple of quotes from it. They only really make sense if you know who Mr. Golightly is and I don’t want to give that away to anyone who might want to read it so you’ll just have to trust me that this is meaningful ;) In short Mr. Golightly once wrote an internationally bestselling book which he feels now needs bringing up to date and so takes a holiday to accomplish this and come to terms with the catastrophe that befell his son. When discussing a child who continually truants from school Mr. Golightly says: “I shouldn’t worry. In my view it’s overrated. My own son never attended school – nor did the Queen, I believe” he added hastily. He didn’t want to sound sexist. He later sees a stone with the ten commandments carved on it and feels that as well as the ‘honour your father and mother’ one there should have been one about honouring children. I liked these bits.
