Nice Halloween. Started with a reminder of how bad rush hour traffic is in Aberdeen (how could we have done this everyday for so long???). Went to see Spirited Away with National Films Schools Week. Film was very good, in Japanese with subtitles – suitably scary and monster filled for today! Not sure where to start with the behaviour of the 3 schools who sat there with us – what hope do the kids have when set such a bad example by the adults around them? The poor story-teller who introduced the film and told a great story had to raise his voice above the constant loud rustling of crisp bags and chattering – this was not just the children. Would it have been too much to explain in advance that it is polite not to eat and talk during a live performance? I guess it would if you don’t know that yourself… what a slight on the performer… that whole ‘respect for others’ thing needs looking at rather than the 3 ‘r’s and more boxes to tick. The further we get from school the worse and more alien it seems when we step back near to it again. We got a lot from the event anyway – the storyteller was full of interesting information about shinto, anime etc. and things to look out for in the film.
Afterwards we went for a nice lunch, then discovered that Ottokaars has turned into Waterstones (just as well, can never remember how to spell it and can’t be bothered to look it up). This did not prevent me from treating myself to the new Stephen King and the new Sue Townsend – nice switch offs from all moving business. Kids split the price of new spyro game with their own money – retail therapy had by all :) We also bought the new Aberdeen version of Monopoly as we don’t have any monopoly set now (lost, damaged or gave away 3 sets over the years). Later I attempted my own adapted version of the mummies from vegan lunch box today – I used puff pastry and a pumpkin and leek spicy filling, very tasty. Some images of this evening:
