Bennachie

Had a sudden terrible realisation this morning. We had not climbed a mountain or any large hill this summer. Beautiful day so off we rushed to rectify this :) A bit like childbirth, climbing. You don’t remember how hard it is until you’re doing it again (actually no comparison of course – childbirth much harder!). We got to the top (the highest peak, known as the ‘Mither Tap’) though and the views were amazing. It was very windy up there and it felt quite scary with the steep drops all around so we didn’t linger too long. Had a great many discussions about things on the way up and mainly on the way down which was much a more relaxing type of walking. Subjects included vitrification of rock (fort up there is partially vitrified), hillforts, hollow earth theory, local legends, fungus of which we saw (and smelled – ugh, some gone like brown slime) a wide variety, plants, trees, fitness, red eyes in photos and much more… Popped into the library on the way home and we all did very well there, Daniel finding The Private Life of Plants to go with the series were watching.
