easing back in

to some stuff that we think of as official education, though the further we go into HE the more I see that you can’t divide life up like that – if they’re happy and interested they are learning. Davie picked a small section of the apples on our trees at the weekend. So far we have made 2 cakes and a batch of chutney which is very good – recipe may be forthcoming soon :) If anyone lives in our vicinity and would like some cooking apples – please come and get them! Here’s some of our chutney preparing yesterday (mouseover for comments):

final product - very yum

Today we have returned to our human body project as planned (bit of a Waldorf thing that I like, doing each main lesson block twice, 2nd time in more depth once the initial information has been integrated) with this great DVD that Cat lent us. This morning we watched the first 2 episodes – a general introduction and then conception, pregnancy and birth. Very well done, lots of pausing to discuss bits and answer questions. Kids are now colouring in the reproductive pages in these anatomy colouring books. Our models of brains, hearts, bodies etc. have all been taken out and put together on the sitting room window sill.

recipes (scroll down on pages for them both now): the chutney one is here and there’s also a pie inspired by one Cat made for us when down here with a rather good pic I think :)
