…never stops us having fun. In fact it ensured we had the place all to ourselves despite it being the first day of school holidays here. It was actually quite warm and pleasant. Saw lots of wildlife – two deer on the road on the way across, one just a little dappled baby, a buzzard chasing a magpie and two swallows attacking a hawk. So let the photos commence! Here we are at the top of steps at Cullykhan Bay:

the tide was further out than usual, revealing this previously undiscovered (by us) tunnel/cave going right through underneath the cliffs at castle point:

so through we went – light at the end!

leads into a sea cave – wonderful echoes and sounds of seagulls.

back to the beach to make castles, explore rockpools, throw bits of kelp for Toby to chase…

tunnel from across the bay

a dead jelly fish – well it was floating upside down, lifeless in the sea so we thought it wouldn’t mind being put in a bucket and studied. Amazingly beautiful creature – how great to be purple :) not so great to be dead obviously….

on the way up to the old fort and castle area you see the devil’s lum (Scots for chimney) – think it’s a sea cave, never ventured over to it:

and finally a view of the village of Pennan from the top:

So that was this afternoon. Yesterday we spent 3 hours playing this Da Vinci game devised by home educators – quite challenging but good for lateral thinking. Daniel has been very organised looking up when ‘A Picture of Britain’ is on (UKTV docs) to go with the book we bought from the book people earlier. We do seem to be studying quite a bit of art history just going with the flow as it were. And just have to mention this enormous cake – don’t think I could be bothered to make 3 cakes and stick them together but it looks good
