Yes, here we are, first post on new blog. Feel a bit sad leaving behind the simpler times of the home ed diary and still have things I want to tweak and change here. May get round to designing a picture for the header, we’ll see. Was very excited when I managed to install sidebar widgets this morning – felt so clever doing that so as to avoid any cleverness being required in the future
Another nice mild day here. Had some media excitment moments. Charlotte was very delighted this morning with the arrival of a Blue Peter badge in the post – “mum, mum, there’s something from Blue Peter and it’s addressed to me!”. Her and a friend had sent in a story and pictures a while ago. She’s done her own blog on it with pic (a particularly good HE t-shirt that). I was interviewed for an article about MacDonalds – they’re having one family who eat there a lot and one who never do. Not one of the better papers and past experience has shown they tend to put what they think you should say as opposed to what you actually did say – but I’ll link it if it’s halfway decent.
We packed a picnic and headed to a local park thinking we’d get it to ourselves as usual, which we did for a while. Charlotte said – look, kids walking like soldiers in lines – and indeed a large school trip had arrived. Kids were behaving fine as far as I was concerned but I’m glad my kids are no longer in the care of people who are more interested in gossiping with each other than paying any attention to the children. There was a moment when one lady tore herself away and shouted at some kids about what they were doing on a swing. The phrase ‘accident waiting to happen’ was used 3 times and they were told exactly how to play on the swing. We left at this point and went round the Aberdeenshire Farming Museum which we haven’t visited for years, as it was considered really boring. This time we found it quite interesting, especially the Horseman’s House – the lady in there was quite surprised to see children who were interested. (weve become totally uncool haven’t we?) After this we bought some plants and flowers at the garden centre and headed back here to plant them. Got one called Chocolate Cosmos – it’s flowers both look and smell like chocolate. Daniel knew about it and told us about it being extinct in the wild now and coming from Mexico – well it’s at our back door now
Below: cows, superior new swing in the park (of aforementioned future accident prediction), swan family and chocolate cosmos.
