Slains Castle

Felt really tired and drained this morning. Long time since I’ve felt that way. We talked it over and as were meeting up with everyone next week anyway the children were quite happy to have a day chilling at home instead of the planned home ed group picnic. Gave the house a good air and clean and then we all vegged out in the garden all morning. Daniel had bought a book on the old railway in this area and was thrilled to see a tram that we actually went in at the museum pictured in the book. It came from Cruden Bay so batteries recharged we headed there this afternoon to the beach – weather changed a bit so it was a very bracing windswept walk! Afterwards we went on to Slains Castle up on the cliffs (very dangerous – not recommended with small children). This was the castle that inspired Bram Stoker to write Dracula – didn’t see any vampires, lots of mud though. Did not go right up to castle but may return another day when it’s drier. About half a mile further on are the Bullers of Buchan, unique rock formations in the cliffs, which we went down to but it looked so muddy and slippery on the cliff path we didn’t explore it – will go back in better weather as we could see it’s amazing. Daniel had some good news – he is one of the winners of the brightminds quiz. We don’t know what he’s actually getting for a prize but he was very pleased just to win :)
