Played a game of Chinese Chequers – been a while since we played this and again I note that both children are working things out for themselves much better now. Then we did some more magical maths (C) and 2XL (D) and Charlotte is also working her way through a Key Spellings book – she likes the familiar format of this series.
This afternoon we made chocolate muffins with spelt flour instead of wheat (using this basic chocolate cake recipe though were getting very slap happy with our quantities!) – worked out very well, just needed a little less liquid than usual. Talked about the use of chemical reactions in cooking, in this instance the vinegar and bicarb. Went for a rainy walk while the cakes cooled. Then the kids whipped up some icing and decorated with the small amount of choc. chips left in the bag (where did the others go???) – all very yummy.
