bullying and anatomical colouring

Merry has written an interesting post on school bullying policies on her blog. Well worth a look – no wonder so many people leave school with such a negative outlook on life and low self esteem. Bullying is more or less just accepted as the norm now, certainly in state schools. What sort of lesson can kids take from that? You’re never safe, there’s no escape and no point telling anyone – an abusers dream. Not to mention the bullies themselves – they get no help as their behaviour is seen as acceptable. I can never see abuse of any sort as normal or OK. I am really happy my kids are out of it now but feel so deeply for all the others who are still suffering. One five year old boy I know told his mum recently that he can’t ever go to the toilet at school as ‘that’s where they get me’ :( :( I feel that changing the lethargic attitude to bullying in schools could do a lot about our increasingly selfish society. But then maybe it’s me thats strange (I know it really). Once in a school staffroom I admitted that I lay awake at night worrying about certain children – everyone looked at me as if I was mad! Right, were all off to make straw art animals, walk the dog and go to the library (yes, all at once ;) )

Still sticking to our exercise regime. Had a good game of Trilemma – haven’t played it for a while and was pleased that children have retained their knowledge of prime numbers, factors etc. Laden postie at the front door this morning. The weather CDRom from the Met Office did come with me inputting home educator in the form – looks good. One of the anatomy colouring books I ordered came – emailed about the second one, an error has been made, I have two children who need one each! And this lovely man is getting much use!

Fabulously detailed anatomy colouring book – kids are loving doing them as we study different sytems and parts of the body – quite comprehensive.
