friends and mince pies

Had unexpected visitors today who have not seen for a while. Very nice time catching up with all our news. We supported each other through some tough times in the last couple of years and it was good to see we are both in happier places now. Poor Lynda was made to sit and listen to the JCB song (she loved it… knows all about schools and dyslexia this lady!). Despite this she has asked us up to stay with her in the new year which is extra exciting as she is now property manager at Brodie Castle and lives there! Was telling me all the good new things they are going to be doing next season for families and children – all very exiting. Kids all had a good time playing together – Michaela is a little older than my two so is greatly looked up to for her knowledge in certain things (like how to cheat in playstation games today!). She attends the same school as Tilda Swinton’s (Witch in new Narnia film) children and we were hearing how Tilda is not letting her own kids see Narnia as she feels it is too scary. Certainly the part where she kills Aslan is horrifying but no more so than the book I feel. Anyway – that was the celebrity gossip for the day :)

Later we did some festive baking. More or less left the kids to make the mince pies on their own and they did a very good job. I made this Christmas cake and a bit – it was way too much for the tin size specified. Maybe I did something wrong – I did change the dried fruit to raisins, cranberries, apricots and coconut and put in more sherry than it says. Should be good though.
