Very frosty night bringing a beautiful sunny day after it. Went for our walk this morning to enjoy the sunshine. Daniel has been getting a lot out of the Kew Gardens site. I have visited it once in the dim and distant past and he asked me what plants I saw there. I had to honestly answer that I did not get to stop and look at any plants. While at college in London I volunteered at the FDR school in Swiss Cottage and it was with them I went to Kew. The child in my care was very spirited and I spent much time chasing after him while he experimented to see how fast his wheelchair could go on a narrow, upper floor walkway in a greenhouse! Nicest school I ever worked in that – had such fun with the fantastic children, remember going on ‘We Are the Champions’ with them…
This afternoon we have done a reading comprehension about Advent, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa today from edHelper.com, then gone deeper into looking at Kwanzaa – very comprehensive site that, read all through it. What a fabulous festival with all that self-reflection – our culture could do with something like that. Coloured a Kinara from abcteach

Have been contemplating how ‘right’ home ed. stuff has always felt to me. Before the children ever went to school I read up all about it and considered doing it. Sometimes I would give the children ‘mental health’ days off school and we’d do fun stuff together and I knew they got more out of these days than school. I really must get quicker at acting on these feelings of ‘rightness’ so it won’t take seven years and various disasters to push me into action again!!
This time I think I’ve really finished the Christmas shopping. Have bought Davie a really good gift but obviously can’t say what it is here! Ordered one or two more bits. Were having all the family over to us on Christmas day so I’m doing a buffet. Have not decided all there will be (kids and me are going to plan a proper menu of stuff) but some from here and the amazing grand chocolate log from here
