thoughts and big art

Snow update at 7.45 pm: ground all white outside now!

Been having those very happy thoughts again – so glad were now home educating. While the children were at school, even when things were ticking along relatively smoothly, there was always a ‘wrong-ness’ to our lives. Everything seems to fit into place now and feel so right. No-one is bored by work too easy or stressed with non-understanding – individual help is not a rare occurrance anymore. Art projects are continued until finished, no bells to stop us or classroom assistants to bin all the large Christmas art on the last day, much to the horror of the Primary 1s! Everyone’s confidence is still growing – no daily put downs from peers or teachers. Were enjoying fantastic literature – not out of date reading books many levels too simple and cretinous in content .

Oh, and this will sound silly – no more mad, late night, frenzied cake making. I enjoy making cakes again. In explanation: the Waldorf school the children attended for a while does not have set fees, operating a ‘pay what you can afford’ structure, which is good, don’t mean to criticise that at all. However it did mean there were a lot of fund-raisers going on all the time. I was always having to bake cakes and then carefully transport them to the school. There was a weekly cake stall, Christmas Fair, maintenance days, birthdays (had to provide cakes for everyone on your child’s birthday). We had to leave at 6.45am each day and returned after 4pm – the cake-making overstretched my limits that bit further :) No more driving on icy winter roads before the gritters have been out either… what bliss… Still – it was all interesting life experience… Certainly all the total nonsense at state school has made me more outspoken and strong in my resolve never to put up with such awful treatment ever again… what monster have they created??? It lives! OK will stop this ramble before it becomes more surreal and digresses further from the point ;-)

Well it keeps snowing today, and the wind has really got up – nothing lying as yet. Charlotte has been doing stuff about space on the Magic Schoolbus site today and has enjoyed the Dr. Who activity from Primary UPD8 – shame their Primary stuff is by subscription when all the secondary stuff is free. They have two free ones to try. Weve also all been enjoying the free taster of the Goblet of Fire Game. The Historic Scotland magazine came with the post today – Dan’s been engrossed in it for while. Blizzarding as I type now (11.33 am) and really dark like evening! Some of the ‘big’ art from yesterday, couldn’t fit them all in a photo – they spent all afternoon yesterday on these and discovered that big paper, while lots of fun, is also lots of work!
