art, food, maths

A postcard came from Alabama this morning. Charlotte went and looked up some information about it on the internet and drew pictures of the state flower and fish in our postcard exchange jotter. Good project this one – the children take it in turns to write the cards and do the research. Been doing quite a bit of workbook stuff – Charlotte is enjoying the times tables practice one so much she has taken it off to her room to finish it today. Daniel wonders if there is something ‘wrong’ with her!!! He is now watering all the plants – all his own idea, what a difference in that boy. Academically too I see both children progressing fast. I’m really enjoying doing maths things with them – never thought that would happen ;)

Cookingwise weve made a very good pesto recently – about the best I’ve ever tasted and very easy.

Did some oil painting this afternoon – very smelly and messy but good fun. On our walk today we went past a farming museum – the children went in to see the chickens (I waited outside with Toby – chickens would be too exiting for him) and there were some day old chicks – so sweet, wonder what their fate will be. The museum doesn’t stay open over the winter. Conker collection has now grown to over 80!

times tablesA great fun way of reinforcing tables – this is a recent acquisition intended to help with basic maths. After years in state school neither of my children has a firm grasp of these skills - this book is zany and fun as I don’t want all our ‘revision’ to feel like hard work.
