Glasgow and Loch Lomond

Just come back from a few days in Glasgow. Our waistlines have expanded somewhat – staying with two vegan chefs, what bliss. We did rather eat our way round the city – had great meals at both Mono and Grassroots which has an amazing little veggie supermarket too. Travelling on a city bus and the underground train were new experiences for the children (we are such country mice!) – that kind of real life practical experience is what I feel Daniel needs more of.  Academia is what he loves and excells at of course like many aspies. Home ed. will hopefully redress the balance. Walked round different areas of Glasgow learning about racism problems, architecture, and em consumerism… great fun Should also say we learned a lot about football during our stay and passed Ibrox stadium on a daily basis (was amazed to learn it is a listed building).

Took a day trip to Loch Lomond which was beautiful but rather “touristed up” in the visitor centre with shops and restaurants at each turn (which I thoroughly enjoyed, so shouldn’t complain really . Watched an interesting animatronic show with an otter diving into the loch and going back in time, and then a rather questionable retelling of the Loch Lomond song story. The giant screen did show landscapes and scenery very well. Children were very impressed by both. Adults not so impressed that the animatronic aspect is about to be destroyed in favour of a sea life centre The only slightly dodgy meal we had the entire trip was on the ‘Maid of the Loch’ boat restaurant on the loch but it was interesting being on the boat.

Collected lots of postcards during our trip as we have joined a postcard exchange for homeschoolers sic. Should be a good little geography project. We intend studying a bit about the different countries and states that we communicate with.
