workbooks, tower and JCB song

Ordered some more Spellaway books for Charlotte as she’s keen to continue with them. She used the Schofield and Sims maths books at the Waldorf and I like them much better than the Heinemann ones used in state schools. They cover the whole of primary maths and English – whole range available on their site. Workbooks are not a necessary part of home education but were still using them for just now. I bought Daniel a key stage 3 maths program on CD rom which he will be starting soon. We also signed up for the Guardian’s LearnPremium site covering every area of the National Curriculum through EO – I think it was about £25 for the year. It is quite handy as a back up resource – Daniel liked doing activities on there about volcanoes and Earthquakes. I also like it’s newsdesk items – weve always discussed current affairs with our children and feel it is a valuable part of education. While discoursing on these more orthodox forms of learning I should mention another one we enjoy – word of the day from Dictionary.com – you can have it emailed to you each day, though strangely it doesn’t seem to arrive every single day but is good anyway :)

spellawayWeve found these Spellaway books really useful for Charlotte as she enjoys tham and they give a variety of extra spelling practice tasks. It’s quite amazing how well her spelling has come on in 1 term of home ed. – these books are only a small part of that of course!
