Tolkein and woodland bits

Waiting in today for courier – my lovely laptop has fried and is being taken away for repair. Charlotte is reorganising her wardrobe, with no input or suggestion from me. She has created a costume box, sorted out lego and playmobile and discovered many lost, forgotton toys and items of clothing. While she works (dressed as Harry Potter) she is listening to an audiobook (a favourite pastime) – today it is Lemony Snicket’s ‘A Bad Beginning’, downloaded for free from Audible.co.uk – was slightly involved, having to install software to do it and burn the CD. Daniel is still deep in his Tolkien project, telling us obscure facts every so often. He is becoming so helpful and thoughtful – yesterday he pushed my shopping trolley all round Asda, even when it was heavily loaded and then carried the shopping into the house – without being asked. May not sound much but this is a big difference from the stressed child he was while attending school. Both kids seem to be taking the initiative more in ther lives – not waiting to be told what to do.

Found this great wildlife site from The Woodland Trust with printable worksheets, games and facts here Charlotte really enjoyed the activity where you get to write a newspaper article about a road planned to go through a wood. We printed out some tree related worksheets and dot to dots too. Daniel is burying his nose in Tolkien just now – a couple of sites he likes are The Encyclopedia of Arda and Middle Earth Races on Wikipedia. We all had fun on the Tolkien Trail – being addressed by name is quite amusing!
