We had a really good day at Archaeolink today. They are taking part in the Time Team event by reconstructing a Roman Marching Camp (just seen it on TV too!). The kids got to join the Roman army and be trained to lunge, stab and charge and of course march: sen, dex, sen, dex (we are peace loving souls really!). We also listened to a talk on the battle of Mons Graupius and saw Roman artefacts from Scotland. The children made pictish stones (I then had to lug these around for the rest of the day
and Daniel and I got our faces painted Celt style. We saw some iron age cooking taking place. Afterwards we visited the nearby Maiden stone – beautiful carvings. Photos didn’t come out too wel
l today so you are spared seeing me with blue swirls all over face.
A comical and sometimes disgusting look at the Romans from the ‘Horrible Histories’ series – Daniel read every one of these books a couple of years ago. Charlotte has now discovered them.
